UIC Theatre Senior Omar Fernandez Builds Community Through Subtext Studio

Join us in celebrating Omar Fernandez, a graduating senior in the BA in Theatre and Performance program, with a focus in authorship!

Omar was recently profiled by UIC Today for his impact on Chicago theatre and the creation of his production company, Subtext Studio. While at UIC, Omar directed, produced, wrote, mentored, and championed new work—often for no course credit—driven purely by passion and a commitment to giving others a voice.

His plays have earned critical acclaim, including rave reviews from the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Reader, and Subtext Studio continues to open doors for UIC students and graduates in Chicago’s theatre community.
