UIC Concert Band and Orchestra Festival

The annual UIC Concert Band and Orchestra Festival is open to all middle and high school ensembles. Ensembles are featured in an on-campus performance, receive written and verbal feedback, and participate in an in-depth clinic with festival clinicians. Bands and orchestras of all ability levels are encouraged to participate.

- Erica Neidlinger, Associate Professor and Wind Conductor, DePaul University
Past Special Guests:
- Julian Bliss, clarinet
- John Mackey, composer
Format
- 30-minute performance block. Clinicians will provide written comments
- 30-minute clinic block with a clinician after your performance
- Ensembles have the option to receive performance ratings (I, II, or III) and comments or receive comments only
- Participants are asked to attend the performances of at least two other ensembles
- Participants are invited to attend the Festival Concert featuring the UIC Wind Ensemble with Julian Bliss, guest soloist and John Mackey, guest composer

Programming and Scheduling
- Please plan to program a maximum of 20 minutes of music, including time between pieces
- Plan to provide three sets of scores for the clinicians on the day of performance
- On the application, please indicate your group’s preferred performance time
- We encourage you to include time in your schedule to listen to other bands, and explore the campus
Accepted ensembles will receive a welcome packet including:
- Personalized event and performance schedule
- Directions to campus with parking information
- Local dining options within Student Center East
- Load-in and load-out instructions
- List of UIC-provided percussion equipment
