Theatre and Music
A Message from the Director
Dear Friends of UIC School of Theatre and Music,
In light of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) developments and in the interest of the health, safety, and well-being of UIC School of Theatre and Music staff, faculty, and students, all instruction is being conducted remotely and all public programs are cancelled or postponed for the remainder of the semester.
In addition, staff are working remotely and our office will be closed until further notice. Staff are available via phone or email during regular business hours. For a full staff directory visit this link. We also can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Buildings are open with swipe card access only; contact faculty or staff if access to a room or specialized equipment is required.
Of course this is huge for us. Teaching theatre and music at a distance is a formidable challenge. We are heartbroken about missed opportunities to rehearse and perform together. We are also heartbroken about not being able to celebrate important rituals like commencement together. And, we are creative. We are resilient. We are formidable in our abilities to adapt. I am already seeing faculty, staff, and students devising ways to meet the challenges that teaching, learning, and performing at a distance. I am already hearing stories about how many are finding ways to grow within the limits imposed on us at this moment. I do not expect that it will be easy technically, logistically, financially, or emotionally. I do expect that we will get through this with some incredible stories about unexpected learning and growth.
Health and safety is our first priority. Teaching and learning is our next priority. We appreciate your patience and support as we devise new ways of teaching, learning, performing, and being.
Very best wishes,
UIC School of Theatre and Music
