The School of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois Chicago is delighted to present the second Latin American Music Festival, October 9 – 11, 2025

The festival will feature faculty and students from UIC, local and national scholars, and artists from the greater Hispanic communities throughout Chicago.

Highlights include days devoted to Mariachi, a talk with scholar and author Carmelo Esterrich, as well as performances by acclaimed Latin American artists and DJs.

Community and High School Mariachi ensembles are invited to participate in workshops and clinics with guest Mariachi artists culminating in a 12:00 PM concert with the UIC Mariachi Fuego, our special guest artist: Erendira Izguerra, and a combined group performance with all particiapants.

Friday, October 10, 2025 – Talk with Carmelo Esterrich

Attendees are invited to the School of Theatre and Music for One! Two! ¡Tres! ¡Cuatro! Locating Café Tacvba’s Re in the Cultural History of Latin American Rock, a talk with Carmelo Esterrich, a Chicago-based Latin American scholar and longtime faculty member at Columbia College Chicago. Esterrich is the author of Concrete and Countryside: The Urban and the Rural in 1950s Puerto Rican Culture, and his research explores Latin American cinema, popular music, and cultural studies.

The three-day festival concludes with the LAMF Block Party at UIC’s Student Center East. Presented in conjunction with UIC Family Weekend, this indoor block party for the whole family features the one and only Madera Once, Banda El Pueblo, Lakeside Pride Latin Band, and more! The lineup kicks off at 4:00 p.m. and closes at 10:00 p.m.

The festival will also feature the Tianguis Market—a collection of artists and vendors from across Chicago.

The event is free and open to the public. Invite your friends and family for a full day of music. #UICLAMF
