Auditions: Monday, August 24 – Thursday, August 27

These auditions are for placement into Jazz Ensemble, a Jazz Combo, or Vocal Jazz Ensemble. The rehearsal schedule for each ensemble is as follows:

Jazz Ensemble: T/TH 2:00-4:00pm
Jazz Combos: T/TH 12:30-1:45pm; M/W 5:00-6:00pm; 6:30-7:30pm; 7:30-8:30pm
Vocal Jazz Ensemble: M/W 2:00-3:30pm

Who Can Audition? Any UIC student, regardless of degree, has a place in our music ensembles and are encouraged to join. Students receiving a Music Merit Award and music degree students must meet specific ensemble obligations every semester according to their scholarship or degree plan requirements. Ensemble placement is determined by performance faculty based on audition results, scholarship/degree obligations, ensemble needs, and student preferences.

Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Combos Auditions

All auditions will take place between Monday, August 24 – Thursday, August 27 according to the schedule below. You should be auditioning on your primary instrument unless arrangements are made with the Dr. Stryker prior to auditions. If you are unable to make any of the times for your instrument due to a class conflict, please indicate that at the end of your sign-up form and notify Dr. Stryker immediately. Arrive to the audition site 20 minutes prior to the start of your audition time. Practice rooms are available on the lower level of the ETMSW building.

2:00 – 5:00 PM — L267 Piano Lab (Brass & Saxophones)

Tuesday, August 25
11:00 AM – 12:10 PM — L267 Piano Lab (Brass & Saxophones)
12:40 – 1:50 PM — L285 Recital Hall (Brass & Saxophones)
2:00 – 4:00 PM — L285 Recital Hall (*Rhythm Section Only – you’ll plan to stay the full 2:00-4:00p block)
*Rhythm Section: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano

Wednesday, August 26                                 
2:00 – 5:00 PM — L267 Piano Lab (Brass & Saxophones)

Thursday, August 27
1:00 – 3:30 PM — L285 Recital Hall (Vocalists) 

Results: UIC ensemble placement audition results will be posted and emailed to all students who auditioned at the latest end of day Thursday, August 28.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble Auditions

All auditions will take place on Monday, August 24 from 2:00 – 4:30 PM in L285 Recital Hall of the ETMSW building. Choose your audition time from those available in the list. If you are unable to make any of the times for your instrument due to a class conflict, please indicate that at the end of your sign-up form and notify Prof. Zegree immediately. Arrive to the audition site 20 minutes prior to the start of your audition time. Practice rooms are available on the lower level of the ETMSW building.

Location: L285 Recital Hall

Date/Time: Monday, August 24 — 2:00 – 4:30 PM                       

Results: UIC ensemble placement audition results will be posted and emailed to all students who auditioned at the latest end of day Tuesday, August 25. The first rehearsal will be Wednesday, August 26.
