Join us October 9–11, 2025 for UIC’s second Latin American Music Festival! This three-day event will feature UIC students and faculty, local and national scholars, and acclaimed Latine artists from across Chicago.

Long Description:
The School of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois Chicago is delighted to present the second Latin American Music Festival, October 9 – 11, 2025. This event is made possible thanks to our lead sponsor, Mi Costeñita.
The festival will feature faculty and students from UIC, local scholars, and artists from the greater Hispanic communities throughout Chicago.
Highlights include days devoted to mariachi, a talk with scholar and author Carmelo Esterrich, and a free, public indoor block party featuring performances by acclaimed Latine artists from across Chicago.

Community and High School Mariachi ensembles are invited to participate in workshops and clinics with guest Mariachi artists culminating in an evening concert with the UIC Mariachi Fuego and a special guest artist.
Friday, October 10, 2025 – Talk with Carmelo Esterrich

Attendees are invited to the School of Theatre and Music for a talk with Carmelo Esterrich, a Chicago-based Latin American scholar, author of Concrete and Countryside: The Urban and the Rural in 1950s Puerto Rican Culture, and longtime faculty member at Columbia College Chicago. His research explores Latin American cinema, popular music, and cultural studies.
Saturday, October 11, 2025 – Block Party

UIC Student Center East

The three-day festival concludes with the LAMF Block Party at UIC’s Student Center East. Presented in conjunction with UIC Family Weekend, this indoor block party for the whole family features the one and only Madera Once, Banda El Pueblo, Lakeside Pride Latin Band, and more! The lineup kicks off at 4:00 p.m. and closes at 10:00 p.m.
The festival will also feature the Tianguis Market—a collection of artists and vendors from across Chicago.
The event is free and open to the public. Invite your friends and family for a full day of music. #UICLAMF
