Join us for the three-day UIC Latin American Music Festival on April 11-April 13 featuring international artists and student performances from UIC and Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center as well as leading scholars, and artists from the greater Hispanic communities throughout Chicago.

Long Description:
The School of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois Chicago is delighted to present a three-day Latin American Music Festival in April 2024.
The festival will feature faculty and students from UIC and Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center as well as leading scholars, and artists from the greater Hispanic communities throughout Chicago.
Highlights include days devoted to Mariachi and Choral music, as well as performances by acclaimed Latin American artists and DJs.
This project is made possible thanks to Leticia Gonzalez, The Chicago Community Trust, and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

UIC student bands and solo acts are encouraged to perform a range of genres from cumbia, salsa, merengue, reggaeton, banda/regional, and Latin Rock to win a slot at the Latin American Music Festival Block Party.
Thursday, April 11, 2024 – Mariachi Festival
Community and High School Mariachi ensembles are invited to participate in workshops and clinics with guest Mariachi artists culminating in an evening concert with the UIC Mariachi Fuego with a special guest artist.
Friday, April 12, 2024 – Choral Festival
High School Choirs are invited to participate in our annual Choral Festival with the theme: Singing Together, Learning Together, Belonging Together with commissioned work from Chicago A Cappella’s ¡Cantaré! Chicago – an educational program designed to bring composers from Mexico directly into Chicago classrooms. Learn more about the Choral Festival here.
The festival will conclude with an evening concert Celebrating Chilean Music by Performance by:
Tonos del Sur, Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center’s Chamber Ensemble, and Pre-Lecture by Daniel Party
Saturday, April 13, 2024 – Block Party
As part of the three-day Latin American Music Festival, the Block Party invites the community to sing, dance, and enjoy a multi-stage party featuring music by international and Chicagoland artists and DJ’s to the University of Illinois Chicago, Student Center East.
The event is free and open to the public. Invite your friends and family for a full day of music. #UICLAMF
Saturday, April 13, 2024 – ¡Pachanga! (After-Party)
Student-only after-party will be held at Student Center East’s East Terrace featuring Pachanga Deejays and live music by Grupo Vanguardia.
