It’s 1808 and the inmates of the Charenton Asylum for the Insane outside of Paris are performing a play written and directed by the infamous Marquis De Sade who is also confined to the Asylum. The Director of Charenton has invited an audience from the Paris high-class society to watch the production. The play portrays the aftermath of the French Revolution of 1789 – The Reign of Terror and the assassination of one of the most charismatic leaders of the Revolution – Jean-Paul Marat. The performers are unpredictable, the production is explosive and nobody is really safe.
This production was conceived and created during THTR 421 Ensemble and THTR 413 Movement Lab classes with seniors of the Theatre Program at UIC.
