The School of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois Chicago is delighted to present a three-day Latin American Music Festival.
The festival will feature faculty and students from UIC, Universidad de Veracruzana Mexico, and Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center as well as leading scholars, and artists from the greater Hispanic communities throughout Chicago.
Highlights include days devoted to Mariachi and Choral music, as well as performances by acclaimed Latin American artists and DJs.

This project is made possible thanks to Leticia Lopez Gonzalez, Chicago Community Trust, Polk Brothers Foundation, Mexican Consulate, AeroMexico, ¡Pachanga!, SomosLoud, UIC’s Latin American and Latino Studies Department, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and various donations from UIC alumni and supporting departments.
Thursday, April 11, 2024 – Mariachi Festival
Community and High School Mariachi ensembles are invited to participate in workshops and clinics with guest Mariachi artists. Join us for an afternoon concert at 2PM in the Illinois Room at Student Center East featuring the Mariachi from Universidad de Veracruzana, Mexico and UIC’s own Mariachi Fuego.
Friday, April 12, 2024 – Choral Festival
High School Choirs are invited to participate in our annual Choral Festival with the theme: Singing Together, Learning Together, Belonging Togetherwith commissioned work from Chicago A Cappella’s ¡Cantaré! Chicago – an educational program designed to bring composers from Mexico directly into Chicago classrooms. Learn more about the Choral Festival here.
Friday, April 12, 2024 at 7:30 – Celebrating Chilean Music: From the Colonial Villancico to the Nueva Cancion
This concert will feature Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center’s Chamber Ensemble, and the professional early music ensemble, Tonos del Sur. Join us for a pre-lecture with Chilean scholar, Paul Feller.
Saturday, April 13, 2024 – Block Party
As part of the three-day Latin American Music Festival, the Block Party invites the community to sing, dance, and enjoy a multi-stage party featuring music by international and Chicagoland artists and DJs to the University of Illinois Chicago, Student Center East. Food trucks, artisans and vendors, and much much more! The event is free and open to the public. Invite your friends and family for a full day of music. #UICLAMF
