Godspell, conceived by John-Michael Tebelak, is a joyful musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, bringing its parables and teachings to life through music, games, movement, and play. What began as Tebelak’s master’s thesis at Carnegie Mellon in 1970 grew through an improvisational process with its original cast before becoming a major hit Off-Broadway in 1971 and moving to Broadway in 1976.

At its heart, Godspell is a celebration of love, friendship, community, and the power of hope in times of uncertainty. Its message of compassion and connection has resonated with generations of audiences, each finding new meaning in its timeless themes.

Director and choreographer Breon Arzell, who choreographed She Came from the Bronx and Dance Nation, brings a fresh perspective to this iconic musical, reimagining Godspell for today’s audiences and the experiences and sensibilities of Gen Z.
