Sarah Zegree is a music educator, arranger, pianist, and vocalist hailing originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan. In addition to joining the UIC music department as Director of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, she works as the Director of Vocal Music at Evanston Township High School. Prior to working at ETHS, she could be found in the Chicagoland area working for Uniting Voices Chicago, Wheaton North High School, and several other schools as a teacher and piano accompanist. For six years, Sarah led the treble vocal jazz group at Niles North High School, fostering an inclusive space for singers in an underrepresented side of vocal jazz repertoire.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Columbia University Teachers College. She has arranged music for Alfred Music and Hal Leonard publishers, written for school programs and vocal groups around the country, and served as a judge and clinician for vocal jazz festivals and competitions in the Midwest. Professional organizations include the Illinois Music Education Association and the Jazz Educators Network. Sarah lives in Evanston, Illinois with her dog Audra McDonald.
