Richard Corley is a director, playwright and producer whose work has been seen across America and internationally. Most recently Richard served for two years as Assistant Professor of Directing at Texas Tech University, where he developed and directed an evening of plays based on the poetry of U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky. Other recent credits include conceiving and serving as dramaturg on Desire, an evening of plays based on the stories of Tennessee Williams, and directing several productions for Southwest Shakespeare in Mesa, Arizona, including Hamlet, Julius Caesar, and Romeo and Juliet.
Richard served for six years as the Artistic Director of Madison Repertory Theatre in Wisconsin, where he created the city’s first new play development program and produced/directed numerous world premieres. Prior to that, he was for four years Associate Producing Director of The Acting Company, founded by John Houseman, in New York, where he directed and produced many plays, including several world premieres. Richard is an Associate Artist of the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Massachusetts, and a director and teacher in numerous graduate and undergraduate training programs nationally, including ACT in San Francisco, NYU, and Brandeis. He is the author of the play Tierra Del Fuego, based on the life of Charles Darwin, and original translations of Marivaux’s The Game of Love and Chance and, with Nina Familliant, Chekhov’s Seagull. Richard is the recipient of numerous awards, including the TCG/NEA Director Fellowship, and has served on the panel for the National Endowment Career Development Program.
