Jeff Stockton of the New York City Jazz Record proclaims saxophonist/composer/bandleader Jon Irabagon “represents the future of jazz. A musician who lives in his times, blending his eclectic tastes and massive technique into an exciting and accessible mixture.” Born and raised in Chicago, Irabagon lived in New York City for almost twenty years, earning a masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music and an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School. During his time there, he toured and performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis, The Village Vanguard Orchestra and The Maria Schneider Orchestra as well as being an integral member of ensembles led by luminaries such as Barry Altschul, Dave Douglas, Ralph Alessi, Uri Caine and Mary Halvorson, amongst many others. Irabagon’s own ensembles include his trio with Mark Helias and Barry Altschul, his prog-metal inspired I Don’t Hear Nothin’ but the Blues with Mick Barr, Ava Mendoza and Mike Pride, his quartet featuring Matt Mitchell, Chris Lightcap and Dan Weiss and his quintet Outright! which received a 5 Star Masterpiece review from Downbeat Magazine for its album Unhinged.
