Dr. Tiffanie Waldron Publishes Article on African American Music Education History

We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Tiffanie Waldron, Assistant Professor, on the publication of her first peer-reviewed article, “Sounding the Silences of African American Music Education History: A Bibliographic Guide to Research Literature from the Twentieth Century.”

Co-authored with Dr. Marie McCarthy (University of Michigan) and Dr. Sean Grier (University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill), the article appears in the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education.

Drawing from several years of data collection, the authors analyze and interpret 182 research studies on African American music education completed at U.S. institutions during the twentieth century. Their work aims to amplify these important contributions and help construct a more inclusive history of American music education.
