She Came From the Bronx: A Hip Hop Experience
Feb 21—Mar 1, 2025
UIC Theatre L280
1044 W Harrison St.
By Q Brothers Collective
Directed by JQ and Jackson Doran
It’s the early 70s in the Bronx and a new cultural movement is emerging combining four elements: deejaying, rapping, graffiti painting and B-boying which encompasses hip-hop dance, style and attitude. Narrated by Hip-Hop personified, the show traces the genre’s journey from its gritty origins to its global influence, unfolding as a coming-of-age story of one of the most impactful art forms of all time. She Came From The Bronx is an immersive celebration of hip-hop’s legacy, blending music, dance, spoken word, and dynamic storytelling in a non-traditional, interactive performance space. Performers will engage directly with the audience while navigating unconventional performance areas, requiring high energy and versatility. This production also offers the opportunity to explore and deepen understanding of hip-hop’s rich history and cultural evolution.
Chicago’s very own Q Brothers Collective who have collaborated with UIC Theatre on Rome Sweet Rome and Da Mixtape are taking on this most ambitious jukebox, immersive experience musical which will take us on a roller coaster evening of music, dance, singing and graffiti art.
