Erin Freeman is a production manager for theatre, opera, and dance who comes from a background in technical direction and properties management. Prior to joining the faculty at UIC, Erin taught at Michigan State University and UNC-Charlotte. She has had the pleasure of being a staff member with many companies around the country including Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the Ohio Light Opera.
Her current research interests are focused on the “care and keeping” of technicians which spans topics from repetitive motion injury prevention in production spaces to how contract terms and employee category can influence the trajectory of a technician’s career. Erin is an active member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology and the Vice Commissioner for Publication in the Technical Production Commission. She also serves as the Associate Editor of Technical Production for Theatre Design & Technology, the peer-reviewed journal published by USITT.
