Q is excited – they are moving to Country X! Holy temples and ancient caves! No more comfy
fake existence like back home in Country Y. They want something deeper. Q swears they’re
going to befriend real Country X-ers and have an authentic Country X life.
But the citizens of Country X are sick of Country Y’s colonizing chokehold on their
homeland. B is a renowned doctor forced to take orders from a smug Country Y hospital
supervisor, but does that mean all Country Y-ers are bad? Protests erupt. Everyone has
an opinion on what should happen next, including a Mosquito and a Gecko. And when B
takes Q to visit the Caves, fear and prejudice get shaken up into a near-fatal cocktail of
injustice, proving once and for all that danger lurks everywhere.
Inspired by the cult classic film A Passage to India, PASSAGE, by Obie Award winning
playwright Christopher Chen, is a fantasia on colonialism, past and present, and asks
the question: is a true human connection possible in a terribly unjust world?
