Degree Auditions

Students are required to audition/interview for entrance into The BA in Theatre & Performance and BFA in Acting programs. Applicants must choose whether they wish to apply for the BA or the BFA track. BA in Theatre Design, Production, & Technology students must schedule an interview and portfolio review. Audition and or interview requirements for our BA and BFA degree programs are listed below. Auditions will be conducted in the UIC Theatre, 1044 West Harrison Street, Chicago, IL 60607.

1. New Student

New Students must begin an online application, located here, by January 15. Transfer and re-admit students must apply by March 31.

2. Schedule

To apply for an audition or interview time, please fill out this Theatre Audition/Interview Reservation Form or call Neal McCollam at the Audition Hotline: (312) 996-3991.

3. Program Orientation

There will be a program orientation for prospective students and their families 30 minutes prior to auditions. An overview of the University, the College of Architecture and the Arts, and the theatre program will be presented and a question and answer opportunity will follow. Auditions will commence immediately following the orientation session. There will also be student-led tours of our theatre facilities available throughout the audition session. 

Students may also apply for Talent Tuition Waivers. Applications will be available at your audition. 

Audition Requirements

BFA in Acting

  • Prepare two 2-minute contrasting contemporary monologues,

  • Bring four copies of your resume

BA in Theatre & Performance

  • Select one of the following options: 

    • Performance of a dramatic or comedic monologue (2 min) 

    • One minute of spoken word, poetry, or storytelling (self-composed or otherwise) Non-text performance is OK (movement, voice, silent improvisation.)

    • Reading from a 2 min excerpt of a play you have written or adapted (bring three copies for faculty.)

  • Bring four copies of your resume

BA in Theatre Design, Production, & Technology

  • Interview and presentation of student’s portfolio; your interview will be an opportunity for you to share with our theatre design faculty examples of your work and to discuss your plans for pursuing your educational and professional artistic development here at the UIC School of Theatre & Music.
